This Lake Huron resort seemed like it was a nice Great Lakes getaway for a few years. Looking at photos, the place reminds me of a White Castle burger restaurant...and still cool.

Postcards list the locations as “On US-23, 6 miles north of Au Gres,” and Google Maps lists it on North Huron Road in Arenac County.

On the back of an old postcard, dated 1955, reads the following: “Relax and enjoy a restful vacation...on Lake Huron. Beautiful sandy beach – boats furnished for our guests’ convenience. Excellent hunting and fishing. Completely modern – with showers and individually controlled gas heat. Complete housekeeping units. Available for reservation for day, week, or season.”

Zauel’s may have opened as early as the 1940s, but the exact opening year is so far unknown. Closing is also unknown, but it appears to have been a residence ever since the 2010s, with renovations to change the outward appearance.

Scroll down and take a look at the gallery for a few images from back then compared to the 2020s...
