Cheer-Up Soda Pop: Atlas Beverage Company, Detroit: 1929
I’m old enough to remember a lot of old soda pops, many not around anymore, like Teem, Mason’s Root Beer, and Bubble-Up.
Others I remember might still be around and only available online, like Nehi or Hi-Klas.
One soda pop I didn’t get a chance to try was called ‘Cheer-Up’, a brand that came in lemon-lime and cola, bottled and distributed in Detroit beginning around 1929. The producer of this pop was the Atlas Beverage Company, now considered an historic Detroit manufacturer.

The Atlas Beverage Company had a huge plant on Conant Avenue and succeeded for a good 65 years. They also were responsible for Brownie Root Beer, another pop I vaguely recall - but don’t remember if I ever tried it.
Atlas was founded in 1929 by Polish immigrant Walter Tomaszewski and thanks to their product popularity, lasted over six decades before finally closing for good in the late 1990s.
