Yeah, you clicked it, too. I did the same thing when I saw the headline in Reader's Digest, where I first discovered the rationale behind Michiganders keeping paper towels in their refrigerators. Now, to be fair, I have placed/found them there before because I mistakenly put them there when returning from a grocery store run (I later found butter in the pantry).

It turns out that people have intentionally and for good reason been putting paper towels in their fridges for years, saving them a good amount of money. But how and why?

We've all been there before and always with good intentions. We buy loads of fruits and vegetables, only to have them go bad because we couldn't eat them fast enough. This is where the paper towel in your fridge comes in real handy.

Readers Digest suggests that we should be lining the bottom of our refrigerators produce crispers with paper towels, which will keep them fresher longer. But how?

According to Spoonfuls.com, lots of fruits and vegetables release water once they are stored, and that water has nowhere to go in your fridge and, therefore, turns your food a sad brown. By lining the drawers with paper towels, you're keeping the moisture away from your food, which means it stays edible longer.
