Comparing Michigan’s Grocery Chains: Where To Find Affordable Eggs
So, where can you find a reasonably priced dozen eggs in Michigan? We've done the research for you, and there is a tie. We looked at the five biggest chain grocers in Michigan to see which one charges the least for 12 Grade A Large eggs.

If you've recently found yourself staring in astonishment at the price tag on a carton of eggs and audibly gasped, you're not alone. It's not just you, and it's not just the bird flu (though that's definitely not bringing the price down). Michigan began enforcing its cage-free law, meaning that if eggs are to be sold on shelves in the state, the chickens that lay them must be allowed to roam freely.
Michigan's Best Chain Store Price for a Dozen Eggs
In order to determine which Michigan grocery store chain had the most inexpensive eggs (as of April 28, 2025), I looked up the online prices for a dozen Grade A Large eggs at Meijer, Kroger, Trader Joe's, Aldi, and Whole Foods.
From there, we found the cheapest price listed for a dozen eggs. Here's a look at how each store ranked, beginning with the most expensive:
- Whole Foods: NF Pasture Raised HFAC Large Grade A Eggs (you can also get a half dozen duck eggs for $6.49)
- $6.99
- Trader Joe's: Organic Pasture-Raised Large Brown Eggs
- $6.99
- Aldi: Cage Free Large White Eggs Grade A
- $4.95
- Meijer: Meijer Cage Free Grade A Large Eggs
- $4.49
- Kroger: Grade A Large Eggs
- $4.49
No surprise that Meijer and Kroger are the lowest, though I am surprised Aldi wasn't lower. And let's face it, if you're shopping at Whole Foods or Trader Joe's, you're not overly concerned about a budget. Happy hunting.
