Feast On A Yummy Miami Burger Here In Lansing
It's called a Miami Burger. But it's an olive burger. With Michigan roots. Let me explain.
Boston's involved in this story too so hang on.
I had a friend of mine visiting from Boston. First time in Lansing. First time in Michigan.
He wants to see Michigan stuff and eat all the Michigan things.
He wants the tour. He wants to see MSU, the Capital, he loves baseball so he wants to see Jackson Field.
As I'm trying to think of where to take him, we're cruising around downtown near the Capital and we end up walking past this iconic burger joint.
Say pal, do you like olives?
I proceed to enlighten him about the delicacy that is our very own "olive burger" and "olive sauce".
He is hooked and THIS is exactly what he wants.
I warn him...it's a lot of mayo and olives...mostly a lot of mayo but I digress.
He's all in and already bouncing through the doors of Weston's Kewpee Restaurant.
We head to the back counter to order. He can't stop talking about the interior and the vibe and EVERYTHING.
He even met Gary and Autumn Weston, as in WESTON'S KEWPEE BURGER.
They are thrilled I brought him here and he can't stop raving. So they make suggestions and he's gotta have what the place is famous for. He got the Kolossal Deluxe Olive Burger.
But he also got the story behind THE MIAMI BURGER and that's what we're talking about.
You know they have the famous Olive Burger at Kewpee, but what's up with this Miami Burger in the heart of Downtown Lansing?
Well, my friends, the Miami Burger is the famous one that won them this.
It is a crumble olive burger with cheese on a grilled bun and it is delicious, complex, and simplicity all rolled up and served up in a basket.
They will explain to you the difference between a crumble burger and patty and how they arrived at that. They'll show you who makes the olive sauce from a decades-old recipe.
And the name Miami Burger? Well, folks kept coming in asking for the burger that won in Miami. It kind of stuck.
Go get one. Bring your out-of-town friends.
My friend loved it. This was my second time here. I have learned that when ordering the olive burger, they will do light sauce for you. You have to ask for it.
That's a difference-maker for me.
