The Story of the Giant Lugnut Watching Over Downtown Lansing
You're lucky. Most people have to travel hundreds, possibly thousands of miles, to see the World's Largest Lug Nut. You get to see it every time you go into downtown Lansing.

The corner of South Cedar and Michigan Ave. is clearly a rockin' place. In that one intersection we have Cooley Law School Stadium - home of the Lugnuts baseball team, the Nuthouse Sports Grill, the "Greetings From Lansing" mural and - just to the south of all that at the BWL - (according to Atlas Obscura) the World's Largest Lug Nut.
No, the Lug Nut and its chimney are not as refined as the State of Michigan Capitol Building right down the street and the chimney it sits on is not very tall. It pales in comparison to its big brothers, Wynken, Blynken and Nod, which tower 615 feet over the BWL power plant to the south, near the GM plant (the Monroe Power Plant chimneys are the tallest in Michigan at 801 feet).
No, the Lug Nut is that quirky friend who lives near the ballpark and (literally) over the bar.
And that's his only job - to stand there and honor the Lansing Lugnuts, who have played across the street for almost 25 years. He moved in shortly after the Lugnuts came to town in 1996. And, according to Lugnuts announcer Jesse Goldberg-Strassler in Ballpark Digest, the World's Largest Lugnut weighs 5,000 pounds.
So, next time you find yourself at the corner of South Cedar and Michigan Ave, show some love to the big Lug Nut. Short, heavy - but always up for a beer and a ballgame.
