Michigan Family’s Snake Snipped Free From Tea Cup By LFD

I have never claimed to be a brave individual, but I'd like to think that if the people I loved were in danger, I could muster the courage to run into a burning building and save them. If saving them required running into a room filled with snakes--I'll really miss them. Courage comes in many different sizes and shapes. Still, in Michigan, one Lansing Fire Department firefighter took bravery to another level when he fearlessly rescued an area family's pet snake after it slithered into and could not slither out of the handle of a little girl's teacup.

I can only assume that the family, unsure how to back a stuck snake out of the handle of a teacup, sought the help of a firefighter. I mean, who hasn't been in a similar situation?

A Simple Gesture That Saved a Tea Party and a Family Pet

The story of the slithering rescue was told in pictures in a May 28th post on the Lansing Fire Department's Facebook page. As you can see above, LFD's firefighter Jones, armed with what appears to be tin snips, delicately extracted the snake from the drinking implement while under the watchful eye of the mom and the host of the tea party.

Once free, everyone seemed unscathed, from firefighter Jones to the snake itself.

I did reach out for comments from the Lansing Fire Department, but they weren't returned as of publication. While I'm sure there are much more pressing issues, I would like to applaud Jones's actions. His willingness to help one of Michigan's most misunderstood creatures and allow the pet owners to breathe a sigh of relief is above and beyond.

I WOULD LIKE TO KNOW how many other firefighters flat-out refused to go near the snake but would have zero issues running into a burning building.
