Charges Filed Against Antonio Green
In a press release, Jackson County Prosecuting Attorney Kelsey Guernsey announced that Antonio Green has been arraigned by Magistrate Christopher Dickerson on Second Degree Murder, Discharging a Firearm in or at a Building Causing Death, and Felony Firearm.
Details of the July 27 Shooting
It is alleged that on July 27, 2025, Green shot Sims in the neck. The shooting took place outside of a church in the 1500 block of Carl Breeding Way in the City of Jackson. This case drew a lot of attention, as Sims is the niece of Jackson Mayor Daniel Mahoney, who made several pleas on social media before Green's arrest for justice.
Arrest in California, Return to Michigan
After the shooting, detectives with the Jackson Police Department and Michigan State Police Fugitive Team tracked Green all the way to Fresno, California, where he was arrested and extradited to Michigan.
What’s Next in Court
Green is being held in the Jackson County Jail without bond. Next up is a Probable Cause Conference, which is scheduled for September 19, 2025, before Judge Robert Gaecke.

This doesn’t heal the wounds for the Sims’ family, but it is a step toward justice for a young woman who was violently taken from them. As with all court cases, Green is presumed innocent until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt.
