Jackson’s New Parking Rules: Because Free Time Should Hurt a Little
Welcome to Downtown Jackson's shiny new parking system — where the first two hours are still free, but after that, the city would like all your money and possibly your soul. Beginning December 1, the rules shifted, fines skyrocketed, and confusion among residents reached record levels.

Michigan Parking Crackdown Hits Jackson
Let's start with the headliner: fines are no longer $7. They now begin at $28 — because why ease into financial pain when you cannonball directly into it? If you ignore your ticket for a week, it jumps to $50, because procrastination should always come with consequences.
Permits? WILX reports monthly ones are going up, too. Annual permits now reach up to $923, depending on location. Yes, that's real. No, it does not come with a car wash or latte.
You still get two hours free — total. Not per space. Not per "but I moved across the street." The clock is district-wide, and your little "shuffle the car" trick? City says no. This is a HUGE blow to employees of restaurants and retail stores in the downtown area, as no shift is less than 2 hours long.
For those planning to actually enjoy downtown without running a NASCAR pit crew on their sedan, there's a $10 all-day pass available online, at City Hall, and soon via street-sign QR codes because nothing says "local charm" like scanning a pole.
Jackson's Secret Free Lot
Fox47 reports Lot 9A remains free, unlimited, and magical. Use it quietly. Don't ruin it for the rest of us.

Jackson wanted "balanced parking." What we got was a system where the fines are bigger, the rules are stricter, and the sarcasm writes itself. Enjoy your two hours, Jackson — use them wisely.
