Who Spent a Night at the Best Motel in Jackson?
I’m sure there are a good handful of people who have their own stories and experiences to tell – or not – about their stay(s) at the Best Motel in Jackson.
Located at 1725 North West Avenue, which is currently a Bob Evans Restaurant, the Best Motel was opened by Joseph B. Best in the 1960s. Sitting just off I-94, it was an easy place to find and stay for weary eastbound travelers and truckers.
Locating the Best Motel seems easy enough, but back then the directions were confusing.
The back of one postcard listed the address as:
“M-50 @ I-94 and U.S. 127, 1725 Clinton Road.”

Another postcard listed the address as “M-50 @ U.S. 12 & U.S. 127 by pass”
and again as “M-50 @ U.S. 12 by pass.”
If they had just stuck with ‘1725 North West Avenue’ they would’ve been perfectly fine.
The Best opened at the right time, when there were hardly any other motels in the vicinity. But by the 1980s, a couple of other motels were opening, causing some concern to Mr. Best.
Sadly, the Best Motel was demolished in the early 2000s to make way for the new location of Bob Evans Restaurant. Bob Evans was originally across the street where AKA Sushi and Starbucks is now.
