As we get ready to spend another weekend listening to the best in '80s music, that would be on 99.1 WFMK, it is a fun time to take a look back at other things that were going on in the 1980s.

First off, one of the biggest moments of the decade was MTV debuting on August 1st, 1981. The introduction of music videos was a total game changer to the music world. Along with the music videos were the V-Jays on MTV. Remember Martha Quinn, Mark Goodman, J.J. Jackson, Nina Blackwood and Alan Hunter?

The first 10 music videos that played on MTV...

01- The Buggles - Video Killed The Radio Star

02 - Pat Benatar - You Better Run

03 - Rod Stewart - She Won't Dance With Me

04 - The Who - You Better You Bet

05 - Phd. - Little Suzies On Top

06 - Cliff Richard - We Don't Talk Anymore

07 - The Pretenders - Brass In Pocket

08 - Todd Rundgren - Time Heals

09 - REO Speedwagon - Take It On The Run

10 - Styx - Rockin The Paradise

Big hair was a must back in the day, styling hair that big was an art form. Girls burned through cans of hair spray, the bigger the better was the theme of the 1980s. Big hair, big shoulder pads, big eye brows and make up. The preppy look was hot, and on the other end of the scale the Punk Rock look was hot as well.

The hottest clubs to hit in the Lansing area at that time were Bazar in East Lansing, along with America's Cup, Ricks, The Silver Dollar Saloon, The Playboy Club, Roxy's, Houlihan's, and C.J. Barrymore's just to name a few.  Everyone went to the bars for Happy Hour, and you could eat your dinner because of the great spreads the bars would put out along with half priced drinks. Yes, it was a magical time.

Americans got a bad case of Royal Fever when our nation fell in love with Princess Diana when she married Prince Charles. I remember setting my alarm, so I could get up and the crack of dawn to watch the Royal Wedding on July 29th 1981.

The '80s were a wonderful time, great places to hang out and great music (from what I remember). The Feel Good '80s Weekend, great music and great fun without having to spend a lot of time on your hair and wardrobe.
