Walmart No Longer Michigan’s Top Retailer: Who’s The New #1?
For the first time in forever, and after decades of being the Mitten State's undisputed king of retail, Walmart is no longer the #1 retailer in Michigan. It seems like just yesterday (or last week), we were grabbing back-to-school deals, last-minute deer camp supplies, or just killing time (and money) wandering up and down the aisles for fun (don't lie, you do it too), because Walmart was the place to go.

It's not just a store. It's an empire. But empires don't last forever.
Walmart's Grip on Michigan is Slipping
USA Today says the title of Michigan's and America's Top Retailer has been Walmart since 2012, raking in billions while we fill our wobbly-wheeled carts. Even as the age of online shopping dawned, Sam Walton's ancestors have managed to keep a thumb on the digital competition—until now.

Cracks in the foundation of the brick-and-mortar giant have started to show. Despite offering pick-up service, revamping its website, and even adding new products to its grocery shelves, Walmart is still struggling in the online realm, unlike Michigan's new #1 retailer.
Michigan Crowns a New Retail King
Forbes reports that another company has surpassed Walmart's quarterly revenue for the first time in over a decade. The numbers don't lie: Walmart's $180.5 billion haul wasn't enough to keep the crown. So, who finally dethroned the retail giant? None other than Amazon.

With a staggering $187.8 billion in revenue, Amazon has officially taken over the number spot. While I hate to see any brick-and-mortar location fall to an exclusively online retailer, I can't say I'm surprised. Why would I traverse cramped aisles (please widen them), scan, bag (get rid of self-checkout), and load my groceries when I can order them online and deliver them to my front step?
