Inside an Abandoned One-Room Schoolhouse: Southwest Michigan
WARNING: Under no circumstances should you enter this property. By doing so you risk bodily harm and/or prosecution for trespassing on private property.
I don't doubt that someone who sees these photos will recognize this abandoned old schoolhouse; but for this article, we will just say that it is located somewhere in rural southwest Michigan.
It's not one of the smaller, classic one-room schools, but it's rather a more elaborate one-roomer. Made of brick, it sits in the countryside – but it is not deteriorating. It looks like someone has been trying to preserve it, by re-grouting and putting bars on the windows to keep vandals out.
There's a dilapidated concrete block building out back, which may have been a tool or storage shed. There is also a curious slab in the ground that looks like a gravestone, but I would bet it was meant for something else. It looks like the slab opens in the middle, so I'm clueless to what this was. You'll see it in the gallery below.
Special permission was given to go inside and look around. I'm not sure, but it looks like there was an attempt made to turn it into living quarters. There's a refrigerator, some bedding, a couch, microwave, a makeshift bunkbed, and more home-related items. Obviously, it didn't work out for whoever was making this attempt...could've been some real productive squatters, who knows?
Take a look at the images in the gallery below, thanks to Abandoned Doesn't Mean Ruined.
