The Abandoned Detroit Building That Nobody Will Touch
It’s an old apartment building, sitting ‘twixt neighborhood houses somewhere in Detroit.
This building is owned, but he just can’t get anyone to commit to fixing it up. Or even buying it, for that matter.
He says NOBODY will help him out. When he saw the guys from one of the local construction companies rolling down the highway, he flagged ‘em down and asked if they would at least come take a look at this place and see if they thought it was worth saving.....or not.

Evidently, the owner was working out a deal to sell the property to a local builder through a land contract. After a period of time, the potential buyer stopped paying and wouldn’t even respond to calls or messages. So he had no other choice but to reclaim the property. Now he's stuck – can't get rid of it or even find someone to renovate.
Looking inside, it’s a disaster. The basement, the floors, the ceilings, every floor, every room, have all been peeling, rotting, molding crumbling, deteriorating, sheets of ice clinging to the walls, and dumped with litter and garbage. Is there anyone in their right mind to take on this task? Is there a company who can at least buy the property, tear down the structure, and use the land for a different enterprise? That’s what the owner is wondering – and hoping.
Asking $225,000 for the place isn’t too unreasonable – the land alone is probably worth that or more. A grant could help with his problem, but only time will tell.
It is called the Judith Ann building, located at 14022 La Salle Boulevard in Detroit. Even restorations and new fixtures in the 2010s didn’t seem to help much. Now take a look inside.
