New Rules Start Today With Michigan’s “Move Over Law”

We all know (or at least we should know) that if you see any sort of emergency vehicle including police cars, ambulances and/or firetrucks stopped on the side of the road, that you're supposed to slow down (or move over if you can). Starting today--Wednesday, February 13th, 2019--some new rules regarding Michigan's "Move Over Law" go into effect and will include more circumstances when you'll need to slow down or move over.

According to WILX, the changes to the law that start today in Michigan will require drivers to move over and slow for vehicles like tow trucks, garbage trucks, utility and other maintenance vehicles that are parked on the side of the road with their lights flashing. The law requires drivers to slow down by at least 10 miles per hour below the posted speed limit, as well as move over a lane if possible. If a driver breaks the "Move Over Law" they could get a fine of up to $400.
