New Kroger Stores Coming to Michigan in 2027

If your Kroger feels like it was designed during an era when grocery carts were much smaller and nobody had even thought of curbside pickup, good news: Kroger is spending some serious cash on Michigan.

According to DBusiness, Kroger has broken ground on new stores in Dearborn and Commerce Township, a combined investment of about $73.5 million expected to support nearly 350 jobs.

Two New Kroger Stores Coming to Michigan

There is a tiny price-tag-sized asterisk here. These are new Kroger buildings, not two additional Kroger markets added to the Michigan map. Both will replace nearby stores. The new Dearborn Kroger is going in at Ford Road and Mercury Drive and is expected to open in June 2027, replacing the current location at 15255 Michigan Avenue.

Meanwhile, Kroger is building a much larger store at the Midtown on Haggerty development in Commerce Township.

According to DBusiness, the store in Commerce Township will be about 102,000 square feet and will include a fuel center. It will replace the existing Kroger near 14 Mile and Haggerty. So, no, Michigan isn't suddenly getting a Kroger on every corner.

But Kroger is investing more than $70 million in newer, larger stores here, which means somebody has finally admitted we need more room to stand motionless in the middle of the aisle while deciding which Pop-Tarts flavor to invest in.

This ranking comes from Consumer Reports, which basically filled up the same grocery cart at stores across the country, mixing name brands and store brands, then compared how each total stacked up against Walmart’s prices.
