Nelson & Roosevelt: Two Lost Towns of Saginaw County, Michigan

The little town of Nelson lies in Fremont Township, Saginaw County, west of the Shiawassee National Wildlife Refuge and southwest of Saginaw.

Not much is left of Nelson except a few old buildings, a handful of residents and the old Guardian Angels Church, which would be the highlight of your visit.

The 'town' is located at the intersection of Nelson Rd and S. Hemlock Rd. Aside from the old church, the original post office was the hub of town from 1883 - 1912. It's completely gone. The only establishments that remain downtown are the township hall and the Methodist Church

And, just three miles northeast of Nelson, lies the former town of Roosevelt. Roosevelt is another lost village, at the corner of Lakefield Rd. and Fordney Rd. Roosevelt's post office lasted from only September 1901 to June 1902. All that is left of Roosevelt are some dwellings, but no businesses...you wouldn't even know the intersection was once a town (see photos).

They're just two more pieces to the Michigan puzzle...two more lost towns that you should visit on your next Michigan roadtrip!
