The Lansing foodies' scene has been through many changes over the last couple of years.

It's no surprise that restaurants were hit hard by the pandemic. And further, they've been hit hard by the rising costs of inflation and difficulty with hiring enough staff. Even in the last year alone, we saw at least nine restaurants close their doors for good.

However, the greater Lansing area also had at least 13 restaurants open their doors to the public in 2022. And one of those restaurants was Goodfellas Bagel Deli.

Goodfellas opened two new locations last year. The first is the spot located inside the Capital City Market in Downtown Lansing, which opened near the end of August 2022. The second location was in Downtown East Lansing, which opened in September 2022. Bringing the grand total up to three locations throughout the Lansing and East Lansing area. However, that is about to change.

In a recent post made to its Facebook and Instagram pages, Goodfellas announced that it will be closing its original location in Lansing, located at 625 E Michigan Avenue.

I thought this to be very interesting because that was the location that I would frequent, and I would often be standing among throngs of people also waiting for their breakfast bagel sandwiches.

Goodfellas explained in their post that they learned a lot through the rapid expansion of their business in the last few months. They wanted to make sure that they were providing consistent and high-quality food and service to everyone, but found that those expectations were harder to maintain with three storefronts and not enough staff. Which has played a part in why they've decided to close the Michigan Avenue location.

But, not to fret! There will still be a Downtown Lansing location, and that's the one inside the Capital City Market. Which, by the way, has free parking and indoor seating.

If you'd like to patronize the O.G. Goodfellas location before it closes, the last day will be Monday, January 9th.
