What Do You Call This Competitive Midwestern Outdoor Activity?
I've got a debate that I need settled, and I need your help to do so.
Michigan Summer Activities
Now that summer is here and we're starting to feel the heat in the Mitten state, Michiganders are flocking to the outdoors to take part in numerous activities.
You've got your water activities like boating, fishing, swimming, water skiing, and so forth. You've got your evening activities like building a fire, roasting s'mores, and (for the of-age adults) perhaps a rambunctious drinking game. But what about "lawn games"?
Welp, you can't play lawn darts anymore...but how about horseshoes? Or, Ladder ball is always popular, as is giant Jenga, but what about this other game?
You know that game where there's a wooden plank with a hole in it, and you try to toss a bean bag into the hole? I'm sure you've played it before.
Yeah, that game.
Here's the important debate question...
What do you call that game?
Cornhole or Bag Toss?
I've recently learned that some midwesterners and *gasp* Michiganders mistakenly call this game "bags" or "bag toss".
Before recently, I had never known this game to be called anything other than cornhole. And yes, I get that saying that name may make some giggle or squirm, but I didn't name it. I just happen to call it by its proper name.
I guess no matter what you call it, as long as you know how to play this beloved Michigan outdoor activity, it doesn't really matter. But also, if you call it "bags", you're just plain wrong.
If you've got no skin in the game and want to take part in a summer activity that isn't so heated, check out where you can go berry picking in the greater Lansing area in the gallery below.
