USA Today Names Michigan Beach America's Best

When it comes to ranking the best lake beaches in America, the folks at USA Today's 10Best didn't just throw darts at a map of the Great Lakes. The list began with nominations from a panel of travel experts, and readers nationwide then voted to determine the final Top 10.

And apparently, America agrees with what Michiganders have been saying for years: our beaches are ridiculously good.

Let's be honest. We don't need palm trees, overpriced cabanas, or a DJ blasting dance music at noon. Give us soft sand, clean water, room to spread out, a decent sunset, and maybe a lighthouse that looks great on our Instagram feed. Bonus points if there's an ice cream stand nearby and nobody's fighting for parking.

Four Michigan Beaches Made America's Top 10 (Including the Nation's #1)

According to USA Today's 2026 Best Lake Beach rankings, Michigan landed four beaches in the National Top 10, including America's best lake beach:

#8 Silver Lake State Park
- Mears, Michigan
#3 Hamlin Lake Beach
- Ludington, Michigan
#2 Oval Beach
- Saugatuck, Michigan
#1 First Street Beach
- Manistee, Michigan

Not bad for a state that spends half the year convincing itself winter will end... eventually.

Michigan Keeps Proving The Great Lakes Are The Main Attraction

Of course, since Michigan is surrounded by the largest collection of freshwater on the planet, this probably won't shock anyone. Still, having four beaches land in America's Top 10 is a pretty solid reminder that when it comes to lake vacations, Michigan isn't competing with the rest of the country.
