That’s a Wrap: Why Detroit Frankie’s On Pennsylvania Is Now Closed
You guys just got here.
We mean that literally.
It was just back in July that we were thrilled to tell you about Detroit Frankie's and Good Truckin' food opening up a new spot on Pennsylvania.
Detroit Frankie's has been around for a while. You'd be hard-pressed to get anyone to say a bad thing about Frankie (who's a local legend), the staff, and especially the food.
So how do you make that better?
You open a second location on Pennsylvania. Still serve that amazing pizza. You bring some friends along in the form of Good Truckin' Food. Yes, as in Good Truckin' Diner.

They did just that and the people of Lansing were very pleased and happy.
So what happened to Detroit Frankie's second location?
Just shy of 6 short months later, what had arrived with such love and fanfare is now nothing but a memory.
No other real explanation was given on social media, but we've seen this movie play out with so many local restaurants struggling to stay open post-pandemic. From staff shortages to the rising cost of operations, there could be several factors.
Why speculate when we've got word from the man himself Frank Tignanelli.
"I really liked the store," he said Wednesday morning. "I think it had a good vibe but the expenses of things…I would have had to triple the amount of business I was doing. It was just way too much work for too little profit and I didn’t see it getting any better." (yahoo news/LSJ)
Even though this is sad news there are a few bright spots that we do wish to highlight.
Per the announcement above, Good Truckin' Food will stay put and will remain open on Pennsylvania.
Also of note, Detroit Frankie's westside location at 644 Migaldi Ln Lansing, MI 48917 (just south of West Saginaw Highway) will remain open. We called and they confirmed.
