I have been to Mackinaw City many times; and traveled US-23 between MC and Cheboygan a good number of those times. Every time I take that road, I try to find the location of the old 'Haunted Fort' that used to be there as a tourist attraction. I remember it well, because we used to have fun visiting that old fun house.

The inside was completely dark, and some guy wearing a werewolf hand would try to scare you as you felt your way through.

Sadly, the years may have taken its toll; there are a good handful of old abandoned buildings on that stretch of road outside the Mackinaw City limits. But which one was the haunted fort? I pinpointed a good possibility, which is seen in the photo gallery below. Anyone know for certain?

Another old abandoned building just a ways further is one I always wondered about: the Carson Brothers Grocery, a/k/a Carson Brothers Dairy. The store was owned and operated by brothers Dave and George Carson. They started the business during the 1940s, and also had their dairy farm located across the street from the grocery down a ways on Freedom Road.

Dave and George sold the dairy farm in 1946; it was next purchased by Curtis Dairy in 1951. When the Carson Brothers Grocery closed down (and how long it has been sitting abandoned) is anyone's guess. There aren't any inside shots, but if you travel US-23, you may recognize the building.

Take a look at the photo gallery below.
