Big Lots Announces 4 More Stores Closing in Michigan: Full List
The retail apocalypse continues, and this time, Big Lots in writing its won epitaph in Michigan. The Ohio-based discount chain, famous for selling everything from mismatched patio sets to candy that expired yesterday (but it's still good, right?), is deep in Chapter 11 bankruptcy proceedings. Spoiler alert: they're closing more stores, and Michigan isn't being spared, despite already having 13 Big Lots slatted to be or already shuttered.

Back in the day—okay, at the beginning of 2024, Big Lots said they were going to have to shut down 36 stores nationwide as part of their bankruptcy. But that number keeps growing like your cart after a "quick trip" inside. Now, we're looking at 300 closures plus another 250 stores axed starting in January 2025. As of publication, Michigan is scheduled to lose no less than 17 Big Lot stores when the Chapter 11 dust settles.

The Benton Harbor, Livonia, Saginaw, and Taylor stores are officially joining the likes of Okemos and Kentwood in the Michigan retail graveyard. While these closures may reduce your bargain-hunting options, they might also save you from impulse-buying discontinued flamingo-shaped lawn chairs.
