On one sunny day, the sunlight hit a tree in the yard of this old abandoned farmhouse near Gaylord. What the camera caught was the image of a ghostly face, appearing open-mouthed as if it was attempting to wail.

Urban Legend, or is this all based on fact?
The story began in the late 1800s when a homeless drifter came upon the farmhouse. He approached the owner, stated he was looking for work, and was invited inside and stay awhile. Unfortunately for the family, the drifter was a manic murderer; he went on a slaughter spree, wiping out everyone in the house: the parents and their five children. He then took the youngest daughter outside and hung her in the shed. Based on this legend (said to have been reported in newspapers of the time, but there is no proof of that) paranormal investigators have experienced whispering from out of the air, footsteps, getting scratch marks, and the usual cold spots, with most of the activity happening when visiting the cellar.

According to old atlases from 1897 and 1910, the name of the family who owned that land was the S.S. Bailey family, which is NOT the name of the family that is rumored to have been wiped out.....so it was either the Bailey family who was slain or the whole thing is likely just one of those local urban legends.

Thanks to the gruesome legend, in 2013 the farmhouse was used as a seasonal 'haunted house', but it only lasted one Halloween season before looking for a ‘safer’ place for the attraction.

Below is a gallery of how the house looks in the 2020s…including the face in the tree...
