Inside the Abandoned Detroit School Where Unsolved Murders Took Place
It’s probably a good thing this school has been torn down, considering all the violence that took place – and still takes place - in and around the site.
“Decapitated and burned body found in vacant Detroit (school) building.”
“The remains were so badly burned and decomposed that officers couldn’t determine the victim’s gender.”
“The case remains unsolved.”
So says the narration of the video from where the images below come from. Closed since 2007, the school does contain fond memories for those who attended before criminal activities started happening around the school.

According to the City of Detroit site, “The Ruddiman school has a beautiful history, serving as an educational haven for students and families in the Warren Ave. neighborhood for nearly 90 years.....Unfortunately, once the building exceeded its useful life span and fell vacant, it became more known for crime than community. We’re proud to acknowledge the site’s rich history and remove what’s become a dangerous eyesore for residents.”
The school opened in 1955 at 7350 Southfield Road in Detroit and was used for other activities after it closed. In 2015 community events stopped at the school altogether...but not the crime.
The school was demolished, to the relief of the surrounding neighborhoods, in 2013.
The gallery below takes you inside the school pre-demolition.
