Blink and You’ll Miss It: Gotts Corner, Huron County
This is one of Michigan’s little curiosities; Gotts Corner, located in Lake Township, Huron County.
This unassuming intersection at the junction of W. Kinde Road and N. Elkton Road sits surrounded by four fields out in the countryside. It started coming to life in the 1890s when it was founded by Robert Gotts, one of the first homesteaders in the area. It was named after Mr. Gotts when a post office was implemented here in 1895 and he was named first postmaster.
The area was extremely rural, with plenty of farming and lumbering becoming the community’s main sources of income.

When the post office shut down in 1905, that was basically the end of any hope of Gotts Corner growth. Known today under that name, old atlases show it listed as ‘Gotts’ with some sites adding an extra “s” to the name.
Any travelers on Kinde Road will zip right through this community without blinking an eye...but now that you are aware of this interesting intersection, maybe you’ll stop for a few moments. Scroll down a way to see some photos...
