DESERTED: A Look Inside Jackson’s Former East Intermediate School
It was once known as East Intermediate School, located at 1210 E. Michigan Avenue in Jackson.
In the 1970s the school closed down and the Ethnos Bible Institute / New Tribes Mission took over in 1972. With its home base in Waukesha, Wisconsin, the school came to Jackson in need of extra space for more and more student enrollments. When the institute closed in 2020 it was put on the market for 7.5 million dollars. It still sits deserted.
Built in 1911, it is 110,000 Square feet with a three-story basketball court, auditorium and seven houses behind the property that are mostly homes of former students.

The city of Jackson does have some hopes for the place: maybe as a homeless shelter or a community services domain. There are plenty of former dorm rooms.
According to the videographer, “people from different countries would come to the school (and) this the only place in America they've ever known.....so you know (during) holiday breaks they didn't go anywhere: they stayed (living) on campus if they got a job.”
With so many things found inside, like a penthouse and daycare center, the former East Intermediate school could still be put to good use. Since it is right next door to Henry Ford/Allegiance Hospital, why don’t they buy the property and expand their services?
The gallery below shows many inside photos of how the old school currently appears.....
