The ship in question was the Margaret A. Muir, a 130-foot long schooner that was lost in Lake Michigan on September 30, 1893. The crew was sailing across the lake when a bad storm rolled in, forcing the captain to look for a place to dock. Before it could find a good place, the storm got the best of the ship, the waves overtook it, and it sank to the bottom.

The Muir was transporting 4,375 barrels of salt from Bay City to South Chicago when 50 MPH winds started to gust. Around 7:30 in the morning, huge waves began pounding the ship and water started to fill the hold. Captain Clow ordered an 'abandon ship' – but before the crew could disembark, the ship all of a sudden began sinking to the bottom. The crew got into a lifeboat and started to head to shore but the 15-foot waves began to fill the lifeboat. The 7-man crew bailed furiously and they finally made it to shore.

Unfortunately, the ship's mascot – the captain's dog – went down with the ship. Captain Clow was so shattered by the loss of his beloved dog, that he vowed never to sail again.

It was on May 12, 2024 while searching for the ship, a search party crew decided to call it a day when they thought they saw something odd on the lake floor, fifty feet below the surface. Upon further investigation, they discovered it was the Margaret A. Muir, not far from  Algoma, Wisconsin. After 131 years, the Muir was found.

Here's a few photos of what the crew found...
