The Michigan Grave of Actor George Peppard
Michigan spawned – and continues to spawn – many people who have gone on to fame in one way or another.
One of the many who became successful actors is George Peppard, who co-starred in a good number of films in the 1960s before he found his lasting fame as a television series actor; first in Banacek from 1972-1974 and then as Hannibal Smith in The A-Team from 1983-1987.
George Peppard was born on October 1, 1928 in Detroit and grew up in Dearborn, graduating from Dearborn High in 1946. He became interested in acting while studying civil engineering at Purdue University. For a while, he was a deejay at WLOA in Braddock, Pennsylvania.

Beginning in 1957 and during the 60s he appeared in a good number of films, the most noteworthy being Breakfast at Tiffany’s in 1961 and The Carpetbaggers in 1964.
George became addicted to alcohol, which he finally beat in 1978.....but his health was still in jeopardy, as he was smoking up to three packs of cigarettes a day. After an operation that ended up removing a part of one lung, he stopped smoking.
He was all set to begin a new TV series called The P.I. and had already filmed a pilot episode that aired as an episode of Matlock. The episode aired eight days before George passed away. He died on May 8, 1994 from pneumonia.
You can visit George at his grave at Northview Cemetery in Dearborn. Photos are below.
