The building at 11700 Livernois Avenue has seen its share of businesses and owners since 1930. The structure was built in 1930 with four business units and upstairs apartments. Each business unit had its own numbered address up to 11709.

It was the unit on the corner that brought the customers, used at various times as a bar or restaurant. In the past, this building and its separate units were used for:

Leon’s Spic & Span Pantry, 1934-1940
Ellen A. Beauty Salon, 1938
Faces Cuts-N-Styles, 1941
Livernois Piano Warehouse, 1959
National Piano Mart, 1961
Blue Cross Building and Home Improvement Company, 1964
Orange Peel Lounge, 1970s
Brooks Bowling Clinic, 1970-1974
Rin-Sin Lounge, 1980s
Mickey’s Cleaners & Tailors, 2000s
Bailey Lounge, 2001-2020

Currently, it’s abandoned with homeless people and squatters setting up living quarters, albeit ramshackle. The insides are crumbling; in some of the apartments, stockades of food – most likely from some food banks – are fresh and in good shape, more than likely acquired from several different food banks.

Now take a look inside, as the brave guys from Sanborn Construction enter to see if the building is worth saving...
