Cheapism.com recently scoured the internet for reviews and rankings on sources like Yelp and TripAdvisor, to determine each state's Best Hole in the Wall Diner. While I can't speak to the other 49, they nailed Michigan's pick.

Jackson's Roxy Cafe only seats 50 people and their hours are limited as well. No one cares. What they lack in floor space they make up for in portion sizes.

I would sit on a complete stranger's lap for one of their three-egg omelets with American fries. I'm not sure where they get their eggs, but I've yet to find three eggs at a grocery store that make omelets that big. The food, the atmosphere, and the crew are good, clean fun.

In 1976 Jim Sarata was 21 and working in the kitchen of Bartlett's Pavilion on Pleasant Lake when, while having breakfast at the Roxy Cafe, overheard the owners talking about wanting to sell. Jim went home and asked his parents for a loan.

Sarata would then purchase and continue to run the business under the name it had been using since 1941, the Roxy Cafe. His humor and disposition can be seen and felt there today. Sadly, he passed away in 2014 but, his humor lives on through his daughters Sabrina, Trina, and Christina who continue their father's legacy.

Despite the limited seating, cramped 'waiting area', and tight parking lot, if you've never experienced Michigan's Best Hole in the Wall Diner, put Roxy Cafe on your list of things to do. Plan for a nap afterward.
