A return trip to Pirate's Park in Flint was necessary before they tore it down; it's a look at what was once a glorious place for families to have a full day of fun.

Pirate's Park was a 36-acre amusement area that fully opened in 1991; I say “fully” because for a couple of years before that, the mini golf and go-karts were in public use.

The majority of locals feel the park opened in 1991 because that is when the giant water slide was brought in and put together. It was a 420-foot slide called 'The Typhoon' that was purchased from Michigan Waterworld, another amusement park located in New Hudson.

The park also included:
Arcade games
Batting cages
Bumper boats
Bungee jumping
Concessions
Event room for rent Summer teen dances

Dates vary on when the park actually closed. Some say as early as 2011, but others claim there was nothing going on by 2015. A developer said his company was planning to rip it all down to make room for a huge four-story hotel, assisted living facility, and storage units. It didn't happen. Yet.

Everything in Pirate's Park was demolished and removed in 2024. Scroll down a ways to see a gallery of photos showing what it looked like the winter before demolition took place.
