Michigan has recorded almost 60,000 cases of coronavirus cases. Obviously, the areas around Detroit were the hardest hit, but the virus has reached into every county in Michigan, even those in the Upper Peninsula. Except one.

According to The Detroit Free Press, Ontonagon County, just north of the Wisconsin border, along Lake Superior and home of the Porcupine Mountains and Bond Falls -  has had ZERO reported cases of COVID-19. Only Keweenaw County, at the tip of the Michigan mainland has fewer residents. But even Keweenaw County had their first confirmed case this week. (Someone who was asymptomatic and only diagnosed after the virus was discovered prior to surgery).

Kate Beer, health officer for the Western U.P. Health Department, says they may still see a case in Ontonagon County, but she believes the elderly population is being "a little more cautious".

My guess is they don't get many visitors until this time of year. But the Northern Waters Casino, a cool little casino near Watersmeet, has been open for the past three weeks. And Bond Falls (my favorite waterfall in Michigan) and the Porcupine Mountains will start getting some visitors now that it's warmer. Hopefully Ontonagon County can keep their clean record going.
