A change to Ingham County's animal enforcement rules means they'll be looking to educate county residents on having their dogs licensed.

In Ingham county you must have a current dog tag on its collar at all times. If you dog doesn't have its license then in Ingham county its a misdemeanor offense. In addition, to get the license your dog must have its rabies vaccination. Also the license is going to cost $15 if the dog is spayed or neutered, so if your dog is fixed already you will save money on the license.

A new initiative this year will take Animal Control officials door to door to educate pet owners about the importance of having a dog license.

Ingham County Treasurer Eric Schertzing and Animal Control Director Jodi Lebombard will be traveling with Animal Control Officers, selling dog licenses, providing information on how to get a dog license, or potentially serving citations for those found delinquent on licensing.

The county's Animal Control has the information you need to get your pets properly licensed.

Editor's note: A previous version of this story contained erroneous information stating there was a new statewide dog licensing law. We apologize for that error.
