MSU Reports Highest Number of COVID-19 Cases at MI Universities
WOOD TV8 reports that Michigan State University now has the most positive COVID-19 cases of any college or university in the state of Michigan. The state reported to WOOD TV8 that there are 1,295 cases of coronavirus among students living off-campus.
Prior to this news, GVSU in Allendale had the most cases with just over 600 cases, which prompted the school to impose a two-week self-quarantine or “Stay in Place” order for all students back on September 16th. Since then that number has jumped up to just over 800 cases, per numbers reported to WOOD TV8 by the state. Now officials with MSU have ordered students to do the same to help control the outbreak.
WOOD TV8 says that while school is back in session for K-12 and colleges and universities, the K-12 numbers have been rather small with only one West Michigan school, Caledonia High School, having 9 positive cases. On the other hand, the numbers are much higher at post-secondary schools with MSU leading the way at 1,295 and GVSU is at around 800. Other schools with high a number of positive COVID-19 cases include Western Michigan University with around 450 cases, CMU with around 320 cases, and the University of Michigan has around 295 cases. Adrian College rounds out their list at 250 cases, as WOOD TV8 reports.
