Is It Impolite To Use ‘Mornin’, or ‘G’Morning’ Instead of ‘Good Morning’?
This is a curiosity.....the usage of “good morning” vs. “morning” or “mornin’”. I find myself using all of them, depending on where I am and who I am directing it to.
If I see a friend online, I may send them a message of “Good Morning” but if I run into them somewhere it can be either goooooood morning, g’mornin’, or just plain mornin’.
At work, it’s usually mornin’ or g’mornin’, if you’re in the midst of a project.
If you’re having your morning coffee while a co-worker walks by, the greeting is likely to be good morning.

If you run into a member of the opposite sex, it’s usually good morning. Same sex, morning. However, the majority of females seem to use both words while males tend to be quicker to get it over with, using just the one word.
Is using just mornin’ a lazy way to greet and get it over with, to placate someone with a greeting and not appearing stuckup? This is not caused by all the social media we’ve been caught up in over the past few decades...these variations of the 'morning' greeting have been going on for many years before we even heard of the internet.
It’s become so ingrained in our everyday lives that it goes by unnoticed. Even when passing strangers on a sidewalk or elsewhere, a courteous mornin’ is usually uttered. In closing, all forms of this greeting are OK; it all depends on the circumstance or persons involved.....and it’s polite.
Now you can sleep easy tonight.
Good Morning
