Grab your tinfoil hats because it's time to talk conspiracy theories. From totalitarian shadow governments to pop culture icons who have faked their own deaths, these wild theories are interesting, to say the least. But which of the hundreds of secret plots is Michigan's favorite?

There's a slew to choose from, and US Direct turned to Reddit, the haven for secret society chat groups, and narrowed it down to the nine most popular in the United States.

Before getting into Michigan's most searched conspiracy theory, let's take a brief look at Reddit's nine biggest secret plots in America, in no particular order:

  • New Coke: According to the theory, New Coke was introduced during the War on Drugs to eliminate cocaine from its secret recipe.
  • Chemtrails: Aircraft are basically 'crop dusting' the planet. The purposes range from controlling the weather to sterilizing the population. On behalf of Michigan, and if it can control the weather, how about you sprinkle a little consistency on the Mitten State?

  • New World Order: The New World Order is an organization bent on taking over the world. Freemasons, the Illuminati, the United Nations (even Michigan's own Kevin Nash) are thought to be involved.
  • Black Helicopters: These black aircraft are theorized to carry secret government agents (think Men in Black) that deal with extraterrestrials, crop circles, and UFOs.
  • Flat Earth: The Earth is flat, and we live under a snow globe floating in space.

  • Lizard People: An alien species resembling lizards can shapeshift and have replaced world leaders, intending to take over the planet eventually.
  • Tupac is Alive: Tupac faked his own death. Whether or not he is living with Elvis is still undetermined.
  • Deepwater Horizon: The oil leak spewed crude into the ocean for 87 straight days. Was a strike ordered by President Obama, or did the North Koreans hit it with a torpedo, or was it aliens?
  • The Moon Landing Was Fake: The Moon landing was filmed on an indoor set, and NASA has been lying about it ever since.

Obviously, these conspiracy theories go much deeper than these short explanations, and many Michiganders are very passionate about them and willing to share their thoughts (endlessly). But which one is Michigan's favorite? Last chance to guess...

Apparently, Michigan's favorite conspiracy doesn't revolve around staged moon landings or aliens, but the Mitten State loves to investigate shadow governments by searching for the New World Order.

The next time you find yourself with an uncomfortable break in the conversation, bring up the New World Order. But be careful. Once you stick your head into the rabbit hole known as conspiracy theories, there's no coming back (but you'll find a Michigan group on Reddit to discuss them for sure).
