Michigan Weather History: Highest, Lowest, Deepest, Wettest
Michigan and Mother Nature are full of surprises aren't they? One day your enjoying a beautiful 80° with plenty of sunshine and the next you're wiping snow off your windshield. We may not have sharks but, we have tornados, hail, thunderstorms, heavy rain, flooding, and excessive heat. Mother Nature loves to mess with the Mitten.
Michigan Severe Weather
There are many types of storms we experience in Michigan and most fail into one of five catagories:
1. Snow Storms: Shovel it, scrap it, shovel it, scrap it. The mantra of a Michiganian in the Winter. We are used to them but for some reason half the state forgets how to drive after the first one of the year.
2. Hail Storms: Chunks of ice failing from the sky? Check. Most of the state fears these types of systems simply because they are worried their car may be dented.
3. Ice Storms: Buy bread, bottled water, and some batteries because there is a better than average chance you're going to lose power and shower at a truck stop.
4. Thunderstorms: (lightening flash) Me: 1,2,3...Growing up in Michigan the thunderstorm was one of the first fears you needed to overcome. If you don't we put a comfort sweater on you and have you hang out with the dog.
5. Tornados: We call our severe weather horns: 'tornado sirens'. When these sirens are heard Michigan parents will tell their kids to go to the basement and turn on the radio...while they go stand in the front lawn with their hands on their hips looking for a funnel cloud.
As a result of any of these storms Michigan could experience flooding, which can be costly. Having an ark for safety isn't a bad idea. Here is a look at Michigan's record setting weather:

Before you do what we all do, which is open our mouths and outwardly challenge Michigan's Mother Nature to top herself, stop. Don't say it, don't think it, or the Mitten State may just use its giant hand to swat us with some weather.
