Michigan State Will Open NCAA Tournament In Detroit
Michigan State got its wish: The Spartans will open NCAA tournament play practically at home.
The Spartans are a No. 3 seed in the Midwest region, where they open play Friday vs. No. 14 seed Bucknell. Tip-off time has not yet been announced.
MSU was one of just four Big Ten teams to make the NCAA tournament; Purdue, Michigan and Ohio State also were selected. It's the fewest teams the league has sent to the tourney since sending four in 2008 (Wisconsin, Purdue, Indiana and MSU that year).
Here's where the rest of the Big Ten landed in the tourney:
- Purdue (No. 2 seed in East) vs. Cal State-Fullerton, Friday at Little Caesar's Arena in Detroit
- Michigan (No. 3 seed in West) vs. Montana, Thursday in Wichita
- Ohio State (No. 5 seed in West) vs. South Dakota State, Thursday in Boise
