In 2022, the state of Michigan experienced 1,123 fatal traffic accidents. While several factors resulted in each tragic loss of life, there are also lessons to be learned. Auto Justice Attorney Micheal T. Gibson, looking to make sense of the loss of life, commissioned a study to determine which vehicle was involved in the most accidents on a state and national level. For Michigan, there's a clear leader, a make and model involved in more than 6% of vehicle accidents that resulted in death.

To be clear, the make and model aren't being blamed for the accidents, as many factors played a part in each. For instance, 57 of the 1,123 fatal accidents in Michigan in 2022 were caused by distracted driving. Blaming Apple or Samsung for the user decision makes as little sense.

Nationally, the Chevy Silverado pickup was involved in more fatal crashes than any other, with 2,093 traffic deaths occurring with that model truck involved, followed by the Ford F-150 with 1,656 nationwide. This shouldn't be too shocking, as it seems nearly everyone is driving one or the other in Michigan.

The Toyota Camry had the third most traffic fatalities tied to its name nationally, followed by the Honda Accord and Civic.

Attorney Michael T. Gibson, who commissioned the study, said about the findings: “Identifying the vehicle models involved in the most fatal crashes provides interesting insight into the makeup of vehicles on our roads and should act as a reminder to drivers that no matter what type of car they drive, the most effective way to stay safe on the roads is to ensure they always take steps to minimize the risks of crashing."
