Michigan State Police Join Truckers to Fight Human Trafficking
If you think human trafficking investigations happen only in dark back rooms or dramatic television series, Michigan State Police (MSP) would like a word. Sometimes, the front line looks like a truck stop, a rest area, or a semi-rolling down I-96 at 2:00 a.m.

A National Effort Comes to Michigan
January is National Human Trafficking Prevention Month, and MSP motor carrier officers are teaming up with truckers to spot and stop trafficking where it often hides in plain sight. From January 12-16, Michigan officers will join law enforcement nationwide, the Commercial Vehicle Safety Alliance, and Truckers Against Trafficking to educate drivers on how to crack down on traffickers.
Why Truckers Are Critical Eyes on the Road
This isn't a symbolic partnership. Motor carrier officers will be out at truck stops and meeting with trucking companies, advocacy groups, and community organizations, teaching people what trafficking actually looks like in the real world. Because the folks most likely to see it aren't the detectives behind desks. They're the truck drivers, rest area workers, and everyday motorists who notice when something feels off.
Michigan isn't new to this fight. MSP partnered with Truckers Against Trafficking in 2015 and has since earned national recognition for its leadership, awareness, and education. It's a big deal for a state that moves a lot of freight and sees millions of travelers every year.
Motor Carrier officers aren't just checking log books and axle weights. They're armed and trained MSP members enforcing commercial vehicle safety and hazardous materials rules, and now helping protect vulnerable people from exploitation.
