Four of Michigan's Favorite Flowers Could Poison Your Pet

Trusted Housesitters teamed up with veterinarians from across the state and country to spill the beans on which of Michigan's favorite flowers could be poisonous or even fatal to your pet. First on the watchlist:

Lilies

Lilies are especially dangerous to cats as they are known to cause kidney failure in cats, so make sure yours isn't nibbling on lily petals. Dogs who eat lilies suffer vomiting, diarrhea, and even seizures.

Hydrangeas

Hydrangeas, while beautiful, come armed with a chemical called amygdalin, and carnations, with their stash of natural toxins, are like a pet poison cocktail that causes upset stomach, high heart rates, and even depression-like symptoms in pets.

Tulips

If your pet decides to dine on your tulips they may suffer from a wide range of symptoms like difficulty breathing, vomiting, and an irritated mouth.

Daffodils

These popular Michigan flowers can be spotted in gardens and vases on anniversaries and holidays, but they are dangerous for pets, especially dogs. Canines can suffer from severe vomiting, diarrhea, breathing problems, and even heart problems if they eat daffodils.
