What kind of news are we hoping for? Sunny skies, enough rain for the Spring crops that preferably falls during a weekday while we are working, and temperatures that don't include the words "minus," "freezing," or "below."

Old Farmer's Almanac's May 2025 is Good News...and Bad News

Let's start with the bad news: The Old Farmer's Almanac has predicted an above-average rainfall total for Michigan. How much above average? Try up to two inches. Good news for your lawn and garden, bad news for a tired sump pump.

Just to put that in perspective, Michigan's average annual rainfall, according to RainDrop.com, is just shy of 10 inches. To date, we've already received 7.47 inches, meaning that additional inches in May would put us well over our yearly allotment. Perhaps consider buying a canoe as a second vehicle...

What About the Good News?

According to the Old Farmer's Almanac forecast for May in Michigan (Lower Lakes Region), the good news is that we can expect above-average temperatures. Albeit, just one degree over the usual temp, that takes us from 59 to 60 degrees. Take advantage of those warmer days and take in some sights (especially when it's not raining).

Of course, the Old Farmer's Almanac was published in 2024, so it doesn't take current conditions or recent trends into consideration. However, all in all, their projection sounds like a decent May forecast, even by Michigan standards. Now, who has a spare canoe?
