Jeff Beal, Superintendent of Jackson Public Schools (JPS), emailed his staff to announce his 'voluntary separation' from the district. The news comes after Beal stated at a school board meeting on February 18, 2025, that staff cuts would likely be used to address the districts' over $4 million shortfall.

In September of 2024, Beal received a formal reprimand for mistakenly sending an insulting text about JPS Board Trustee Kesha Hamilton to Hamilton that questioned her intelligence. The board deemed that the mistake was not grounds for dismissal, citing the Superintendent's long service. According to Fox47, Beal was also accused by former staff of harassment and bullying, though that's as far as it went.

That said, the district has made vast improvements under Beal's watch, including a new aquatic center, the Al Glick athletic training facility, and the first new school to be built in the district since 1969, to name a few. What's next for Beal? Though he didn't indicate his next move in his email to staff, he closed his resignation announcement with, "I look forward to seeing you soon on my rounds through the buildings."
