Where Is It Illegal To Take Pictures In Michigan?

It does not matter if you are scouting for the perfect location for your family photos or just a quick post for Instagram, you could be potentially breaking the law.

It is illegal to take pictures on private property of all kinds.

This may be common sense; however, if you do not know, now you know.

Ambrose Law shared that,

"If you are on public property you can photograph just about anything that you like, even private property. But, the owner of private property can keep you from taking photos while on his property. Private property includes offices, people’s homes, and any area not open to the general public."

However, private residential property is not the only location that is off-limits for photography.

Did You Know It Is Illegal To Take Pictures At Railroad Tracks In Michigan?

It is absolutely illegal and dangerous to be on the train tracks (yes, even for a picture) and could land you in jail and a fine.

Michigan Legislature says that,

"A person who violates this section is guilty of a misdemeanor punishable by imprisonment for not more than 30 days, or by a fine of not more than $100.00, or both."
