The National Weather Service has issued a Winter Storm Watch for much of Lower Michigan from midday Wednesday (2/22) through around sunrise Thursday morning (2/23). All but Lower Michigan's southernmost tier of counties are included.

A changing mix of snow, sleet and freezing rain is expected throughout the warned area for several hours.

WILX News 10 Meteorologist Darrin Rockcole breaks it down this way:

Late tonight through early Wednesday we may see some snow, but the bulk of the storm moves in Wednesday afternoon. This is a classic winter storm that contains heavy snow to the north, some rain/snow or sleet mix to the south and a swath of sleet and freezing rain right in the middle where warm air flows over the top of a cold air at the surface allowing raindrops aloft to tumble into this cold layer and freeze quickly. Slippery travel as well as power outages are possible Wednesday afternoon into Thursday.

As is typical, AccuWeather and the National Weather Service have differing thoughts about what most towns can expect over the course of the day. Here are their town-by-town snow and ice forecast comparisons for Mid-Michigan.
