Where to Go Ice Skating in Lansing This Winter
There are a few activities that I feel like are quintessential for Michigan winters. Not all are fun — like shoveling, digging out your car, or walking across an ice-covered parking lot.
But other activities are fun, like ice skating!
Ice Skating in Michigan Winter
Skating is one of those activities that makes winter in Michigan a little bit more magical. If you don’t already play hockey or figure skate, how often do you really get to go ice skating?
If you'd like to go ice skating in the Lansing area, there are a few options available when it comes to open public skating.
Where to Go Ice Skating in Lansing
First up is Munn Ice Arena on Michigan State University's campus in East Lansing. Yes, the Spartans normally skate there, but there are also hours for the public to come and skate.
If you'd like to put on a pair of skates and hit the ice, Munn Ice Arena is open to the public weekends in January.
- Saturday, January 10 from 7:30 - 9:30 pm
- Sunday, January 11 from 3:30 - 5:30 pm
- Sunday, January 18 from 3:30 - 5:30 pm
- Sunday, January 25 from 3:30 - 5:30 pm
It's $7 for the general public; $6 for anyone under 18, MSU students, staff or faculty with ID; and $3 to rent skates.

Another place to ice skate is at Biggby Coffee Ice Cube East Lansing. You do have to pre-register in order to skate here, but you can do that easily online. The price to skate is $10 through January 30 (the cost might increase later, that's unclear) and it costs $5 to rent skates.

There are public/open skates most days from now through the end of February, with the availability tapering off through March. Generally, open skate times are from 2 - 3:20 pm or 3:20 - 4:40 pm. But if you want to see the exact days and times, you'll want to check the schedule.
