Three tiny ducklings found themselves in a sticky situation Friday night in Eaton Rapids, but all is now well, thanks to the quick thinking of some nearby restaurant-goers.

The ducklings had become trapped in a mucky mixture of mud, twigs, trash and other debris just above the Grand River, adjacent to the patio at Eaton Rapids Craft Company - unable to escape on their own.

Mama Duck was nowhere to be seen, so a group of diners enjoying an evening on the patio sprang into action.

How the Ducklings Were Rescued

Rudy Palacio says he spotted a nearby net used for clearing debris, and figured out the best way to pull the ducklings away from the mucky mess was to position the net below them and pull them up.

One by one, the filth-covered ducklings were pulled from the grimy water.

Other patrons teamed up to help wipe away the muck and mess, and couldn't help but spend a little cuddle time with the ducklings once they were clean.

"Seeing those ducklings stuck in the muck, we knew we had to act fast," said Amy Clark of Charlotte, one of several restaurant-goers who got up from their tables to assist in the rescue. "It was a team effort, and I'm just glad we were able to get them out safely."
