When it comes to supermarket selection in Michigan, we have quite the abundance. There's plenty to choose from, whether you're talking Michigan-made like Meijer, or nationwide, like Walmart.

With this variety of choice also comes a variety of service and quality.

There's plenty to choose from depending on what you're looking for. However, if you're looking for the best experience, there is one supermarket that reigns supreme.

What's the Best Supermarket in America?

The American Customer Satisfaction Index (ACSI) looked at the numbers for 19 major supermarket chains across the nation and ranked them in terms of customer experience.

They looked at store hours, ease of pickup process, layout and cleanliness of the store, quality and freshness of the produce and meat, variety of merchandise, speed of checkout process, and so much more to determine which stores came out on top.

With all this in mind, the number one supermarket in America for 2025 was determined to be none other than Trader Joe's.

Trader Joe's is the #1 Supermarket in America

Scoring an 84 out of 100, Trader Joe's actually ties for first place with Publix, but seeing as how we have zero Publix locations in Michigan, Trader Joe's will have to hold the honor.

While Trader Joe's might be the best of the best for the nation, there are only nine locations throughout the state of Michigan.

East Lansing is the newest location of the nine, opening in 2024 (after a 15-year pleading from a Facebook group called, "Bring Trader Joe's to Lansing, MI"). The other locations include,

  • Ann Arbor
  • Bloomfield Hills
  • Grosse Pointe
  • Kalamazoo
  • Kentwood
  • Northville
  • Rochester Hills
  • Royal Oak
