With all the crazy weather we have in Michigan I started to wonder what's the coldest December day we've ever had? I then wondered what's the hottest December day we've ever had?

Here is what I was able to find out.

The Coldest December Temperature Recorded In Michigan

The coldest December on record in Michigan was in 1880 when temperatures plunged to -11 degrees Fahrenheit on December 29th.

This was a time when arctic air over the lower part of Michigan led to extremely low temperatures, with records showing temperatures as low as -17 degrees Fahrenheit.

The Hottest December Temperature Recorded In Michigan

However, it's not always freezing in Michigan.

The state has also experienced some unusually warm December days.

The warmest December on record in Detroit, for instance, was in 1998 when the temperature soared to 69 degrees Fahrenheit on December 6th.

Seeing as how we're not expecting snow this Christmas I wish we could have another one of those 69-degree days.
